What are cavity barriers?
Cavity barriers are designed to divide up concealed spaces. for example external wall cavities. They will provide a specified fire integrity performance which prevents fire from travelling undetected around a building.
Cavity barriers are an essential component of compartmentation. Compartmentation ensures that where a fire breaks out in a building, it will be contained within a smaller section of the building – also known as the compartment of origin. Thus allowing safe exit for building occupants, and containing the fire within a manageable area for the fire services to tackle.
